Kokoroko

Kokoroko are a London-based Afrobeat and jazz collective whose rich, horn-driven sound has helped define a new generation of British music. Formed in 2014 by trumpeter-vocalist Sheila Maurice-Grey and percussionist Onome Edgeworth, the septet blends Afrobeat, highlife, jazz, funk and soul into vibrant music rooted in both West African tradition and the cultural melting pot of London. Their breakthrough came when the track “Abusey Junction” went viral after featuring on Gilles Peterson’s We Out Here compilation, garnering tens of millions of plays and spotlighting their hypnotic grooves and dynamic live performances.
